CHEBOYGAN—The Straits Area Community Foundation (SACF) recently awarded its 2025 Community Impact Grants covering Cheboygan County and Mackinaw City. The SACF Board of Directors approved six grants totaling $11,135 to local nonprofits on August 7, 2025.
New SACF Community Impact Grants awarded are:
- $2,000 to the A.A. Crisis Pregnancy Center for its “Bright Course Parenting and Life Skills” classes, which will help teach expectant parents to learn about topics like prenatal care, parenting, relationships, life skills, and more through an online subscription-based video-streaming service.
- $1,635 to Chelsea’s Closet to purchase suits, dresses, shoes, and additional accessories for their “The Heart of it All” project which enables high school students who can’t afford to purchase these items for formal affairs such as Homecoming, Prom, or special school dances, the ability to rent/borrow these items.
- $1,500 to Child and Family Services of Northwest Michigan for their “Caring for Clients” project which will address health, transportation, food, housing, or other needs for foster care, adoption, and Safe Haven North clients in and from Cheboygan County.
- $2,000 to the Michigan State Police for its “Cheboygan County and Mackinaw City Victims Service Resource” project which will provide resources to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking.
- $2,000 to North Central Michigan College Foundation to support students from Cheboygan County and Mackinaw City in attending the college’s “Fast Tracks Career Opportunities” courses.
- $2,000 to Tuscarora Township to purchase an emergency generator to provide a supplemental power source for the Township building.
SACF awards Community Impact Grants once a year, with applicants applying for specific needs within their organization. Funding for grants during this cycle comes from SACF’s Straits Area Community Needs Fund, Cheboygan Health and Education Fund, and the Straits Area Tobacco Settlement Fund.
The next opportunity for submitting grant applications through SACF is the Straits Area Youth Advisory Council (YAC). The application deadline is December 15, 2025. These grants are for youth-related projects and programs serving Cheboygan County and/or Mackinaw City. Applications are available at sacf.net.
