The North Central Michigan Community Endowments - Your Biggest Impact, and Why it Matters

Your Biggest Impact

Nobody ever wants to find themselves in a position to need the services of the Ronald McDonald House, but when they are needed, thank goodness and organization like this is there! Check out this video of a mother and her daughter, both from Grayling. A grant from our North Central Michigan Community Foundation affiliate provided funding for the Ronald McDonald House to help support families from our local service area who need to stay at their facility, like the Kindler family. https://upnorthlive.com/features/upnorthfamily/mittens-for-good-winter-wear-supports-families-with-children-in-the-hospital More →

If you want to know why our YACs are so important, this is a must read! Last night our Board of Trustees had the opportunity to hear from Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (YAC) members Robert Fairchild and Jenna Peterson about their experience with their Alpena YAC. Jenna explained how their group has to make some very tough decisions on grant funding for local nonprofits for projects affecting their peers. “If we decide to give so much to ‘this’ program, then we have to take away some from ‘that’ program,” said Jenna. “It’s teaching me a sense of balance and using resources wisely.” Robert said one of the things he has come to realize over his time on YAC is that his group is doing some very important work, and he is proud of that. “This is different from a regular club at school,” Robert told the Board. “This affects lives. It really, really matters.” YACs are responsible for determining where grant funding from our Kellogg Youth Funds is directed, with nearly $100,000 being granted annually throughout our nine-county service area. A BIG thanks to Jenna and Robert for sharing your experience with us! More →

Saturday, November 24, 2018

We’ve been asked, “Why doesn’t the Community Foundation let itself participate on Giving Tuesday?” Well, this year we are! While our Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle has been included previously, this year we are including the Community Impact Grant Program and the Youth Advisory Councils of CFNEM and each of our affiliate foundations. A donation to the Community Impact Fund for your community helps the Foundation to meet needs in our area as they change year to year, and your donation will make a difference in perpetuity. The same is true of a donation to the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) endowment funds. A donation to any of these will mean more money in grants for youth programs through this incredible program, which teaches young people about philanthropy and the importance of giving back through the grantmaking process. The bottom line? The more money in these funds, the more we can give out in grants, FOREVER, to support hundreds of nonprofits and worthy causes in northeast Michigan. We hope you might consider a donation to one of these funds on Giving Tuesday! More →

It’s never too early to teach our kids and grandkids the value of giving back. What are the youngsters in YOUR life passionate about? Giving Tuesday is a great way to involve kids in meaningful giving for their community. Providing them with a “giving allowance” for Giving Tuesday, and then letting them choose which nonprofits they want to support is an awesome start in learning to GIVE! #givingtuesdaynemi #teachthemyoung More →
