Cheers to our North Central Michigan Community Foundation affiliate board, which continues to meet virtually to get business done! Last night they approved some grant recommendations, talked about annual reports and scholarships, and brainstormed some ideas to help our Youth Advisory Councils. Having these local leaders represent their communities is a win for all, and we thank them!

"When a boater was having trouble getting into the harbor because of fog, our staff was able to contact him and describe the bouys he needed look for. They were able to talk him safely through the bouy markers and get him and his boat to safety."
That is just one good reason why a harbor's radio communications systems need to be up to speed: for the safety of boaters and to help with emergency situations, in addition to communicating with incoming boats.
A grant to the City of Rogers City purchased a new VHF radio communications system, handheld radios, and anntenas, all to replace an outdated, antiquated system.

Did you know that the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan is accredited by National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations? That matters because it means that basically, our house is in order. The way your donations are handled, our grant processes, fund and asset management, board and committee activities, and our governing policies, all meet the high standards required to obtain this seal. The process to become accredited is quite rigorous, and we are proud that CFNEM and our affiliate foundations (Iosco County Community Foundation, North Central Michigan Community Foundation, and Straits Area Community Foundation) rise to the challenge. We hope it makes you feel proud and confident too!

For the past 50 years, the Presque Isle County Historical Museum has been acquiring historical artifacts and other educational objects that reflect a 2,000-year history and culture of the area. Their garage is already filled to the rafters and they were fast approaching the day they’d have to discontinue use of the Bradley House basement and use it for storage...or discontinue collecting historical objects. A CFNEM Community Impact grant helped purchase new shelving units to make it possible for volunteers to organize and store historical materials efficiently and safely, while still using most of the Bradley House basement for exhibits. Pictured here is Karen Quade, museum president, and Leo Woida, a museum trustee, beginning to organize and store the artifacts.
