A grant through our North Central Michigan Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council to Rayola, Inc. is helping to provide comfort and encouragement to children in foster care – some of the community’s most vulnerable children. The grant helped Rayola Inc. to provide duffel bags and diaper bags filled with supplies for the youth, and quilts to Oscoda County children.

On May 24, 2022, after a two-year hiatus due to Covid, the second MiCareerQuest™ Northeast event once again introduced students to in-demand careers in northeast Michigan. The hands-on, career exploration event coordinated by Michigan Works! targeted 6th-12th grade students, offering interactive exhibits in construction, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology. The purpose of the event is to create awareness of the rewarding careers available in northeast Michigan, many of which have a talent shortage today and are anticipated to have even greater demand in the future. The event was held at the Industrial Arts Institute in Onaway, MI and was supported through a Community Foundation grant.

These Community Improvement Grants will support the construction of a new pavilion at Tawas Point State Park, help fund the “Hidden in Plain Sight” trailer through Up North Prevention, a Community Hub food program, and more. Through grantmaking, community service and leadership opportunities, local youth learn the important role of philanthropy plays in the betterment of our communities. Nonprofits serving Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties with projects supporting issues important to the women of northeast Michigan are encouraged to apply.
