CHEBOYGAN—The Straits Area Community Foundation (SACF) recently approved six grants totaling $4,865 during its spring round of Youth Advisory Council (YAC) grants. The Straits Area YAC (pictured here) awards grant funding to support projects and programs directly benefiting youth and projects important to youth.
Cheboygan Area Schools received $1,000 for their “Operation Graduation” Senior Lock-In celebration held for the 2025 graduating class providing a safe and positive event for students to celebrate through positive choices and interactions that don’t include drugs and alcohol.
Chelsea’s Closet received $1,000 for their “Head-to-Toe” project for the purchase of shoes and accessories for formal affairs such as Homecoming, Prom, or special school dances.
Ronon’s Place, a nonprofit counseling center, received $1,000 to replace their outdated door locking system for safety and security.
Harbor Springs Festival of the Book received $815 for their “Books for Schools” project to purchase books of authors and illustrators who are making classroom visits to Inland Lakes and Wolverine Schools.
Mackinaw Area Historical Society received $750 for their Interactive Activity Booklet project which will provide youth who visit Heritage Village with an interactive booklet of activities to enhance their visit to the Mackinaw area.
FLOW (For Love of Water) received $300 for their Summer 2025 Line 5 Webinar project. The goal of this project is to create a free educational webinar about the Line 5 pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac.
The Straits Area Youth Advisory Council is a youth philanthropy program of SACF. Young people involved in YAC learn the important role of philanthropy in their community, gain leadership skills, serve their communities, and award youth grants through the Straits Area Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund. Through this program, they are empowered to make a difference in their community.
The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through SACF’s Community Impact Grant. The application deadline is June 1, 2025. Applications are available at sacf.net.
