A Message from the Board President For the Community Founda on for Northeast Michigan, 2016 was a year of posi ve transi on, significant growth, and what has felt like a spotlight on philanthropy in our communi es. CFNEM has undergone a rebranding, and though updated, our new logo s ll bears the compass rose it has had for many years. That compass seems so fi ng as the CFNEM board and staff navigate many changes and work to truly blaze a trail as a leader in philanthropy in northeast Michigan. We feel the compass is a wonderful symbol of the incredible journey CFNEM has taken from its establishment in 1974 to today, and of the journey into the vibrant future we see ahead. You’ll be sure to see the compass a lot more. We have been fortunate to have had Barb Frantz, who re red in March 2017, as our execu ve director for the past 23 years. Under Barb’s direc on, the Community Founda on for Northeast Michigan has grown its assets from $4 million to $38 million as of December 31, 2016. Barb has also overseen the reloca on to our much more visible address on Ripley Boulevard, and made many friends for the founda on with her sincere respect for all donors, regardless of the size of their gi . She will be dearly missed. Patrick Heraghty takes the reigns as CFNEM’s new Execu ve Director and will take us, along with our very capable staff of Chris ne, DeeAnn, Julie and Denise, into the future and all of the promise that it holds! Patrick was able to work very closely with Barb the last four months, and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to his new role. I invite you to read through and enjoy the 2016 CFNEM Annual Report. You’ll read about the amazing growth of Giving Tuesday Northeast Michigan, our scholarship program, some great things going on in our affiliate founda ons, and more. There is so much to share. Most importantly, the CFNEM Board of Directors wants to thank our donors. It is because of you that we are able to make an impact in our communi es. It is because of you that we are able to lead in the field of philanthropy. It is because of you that CFNEM has such a successful past and present. We have our compass, and we are ready for the journey ahead. Sue Fitzpatrick 2016 CFNEM Board President 2
