The Iosco County Community Foundation (ICCF) recently awarded five new grants totaling $17,533 to area nonprofits for programs and projects that benefit Iosco County through its Community Improvement Grant program.
New grants approved on May 22 by the ICCF Board of Directors include:
- $5,000 to Oscoda Area Schools for its social work department. Grant funding will be used to purchase social-emotional workbooks on mental health disorders, social skills, therapeutic activities, and for sensory items and fidget materials for students.
- $4,200 to the Oscoda Township Police Department to support its Junior Police Academies program. The grant will be used to cover uniform expenses, lunches, educational materials, and travel expenses so youth can attend the program without financial burden.
- $2,420 to Tawas Wellness Warriors for their Family Healthy Weight program to cover the cost of instructors and equipment. The program is a comprehensive, family-based lifestyle change program aiming to help children make progress toward a healthy lifestyle through positive behavior changes.
- $2,413 to Quota Club of Iosco County Charitable Foundation for interactive musical playground equipment to be added to the playground at Shoreline Park in Oscoda.
- $1,000 to Whittemore-Prescott Area Schools toward the purchase of a tank for the elementary school’s “Sturgeon in the Classroom” project.
- $1,000 to AuSable Valley Audubon to enhance a bird feeding station at Tawas Point State Park that will demonstrate healthy bird feeding practices for the public to emulate at home.
- $1,000 to Tawas Bay Art Council toward the installation of new flooring in the art gallery.
- $500 to FISH Inc. Tawas for its Christmas Gift House to purchase gift items for the 2024 season.
Community Improvement Grants for 2024 were awarded from the Iosco County Community Improvement Fund, William and Marcia Hopcroft Fund, Iosco County Health Care Initiative Fund, Iosco County Spendable Tobacco Settlement Fund, Iosco County Lakes and Rivers Fund, Iosco County Arts and Humanities Fund, and Iosco County Health Care Fund.
The next deadline for grant opportunities through ICCF is with the Youth Advisory Council grant. Applications are due February 1, 2025. The Iosco County YAC is particularly interested in funding projects and programs that address stress and mental health issues for their fellow youth and families. Nonprofits, schools, churches (for non-religious purposes) and government agencies interested in applying for a Youth Advisory Council grant can access the application form and criteria at www.iccf-online.org.
