Donating securities is a great way to give to the causes you care about most, and to give tax-advantageously. We want to make it as easy as possible. If you have any questions about donating stocks/securities, please contact the Community Foundation office at 1-989-354-6881 or toll free at 1-877-354-6881. Your gifts of stock/securities will be received through CFNEM’s brokerage partner, Merrill. Once received, securities are sold in accordance with our investment policy.
Steps to donate securities:
Step 1: Notify the Community Foundation of your intent to make a gift of securities. (Your financial advisor may notify us of your gift intention if you prefer.) This notification should include the following information:
- Donor name and phone number where they can be reached
- Name of security to be donated
- Number of shares you intend to donate
- Expected transfer date of the shares
- A fund designation – please let us know which fund you would like the donation of stock/securities to be placed.

Please note that the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) Tax ID/EIN and mailing address are the same for gifts being made to funds held within any of our three geographic affiliate foundations: Iosco County Community Foundation, North Central Michigan Community Foundation, and Straits Area Community Foundation. These affiliate foundations fall under the umbrella of CFNEM as the lead foundation and therefore share the Tax ID/EIN and mailing address.
Step 2: Contact your financial advisor to initiate the transfer.
Step 3: Request that securities be transferred using the account information below.
Step 4: The Community Foundation will provide written acknowledgement of your donation for your tax records. Please confirm details of your donation are correct, and notify us of any changes.
