The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) recently awarded a new round of Community Impact covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties and totaling $95,680.
Grants for this Community Impact Grant cycle come from the Community Endowment Fund, as well as several other unrestricted, designated endowment funds, and donor-advised funds including Alcona County General Fund, Alcona Healthcare Initiative Fund, Ann M. Kuntz Fund for Presque Isle Youth, Huron Shores Health Fund, United Communities of Presque Isle County Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Wayne Wire Cloth Fund, Presque Isle General Fund, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, CFNEM Spendable Tobacco Fund, Marianne Kalivoda Hall Memorial Fund, Genite Family Fund, Lappan Family Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Fund, Pfeiffenberger Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Weinkauf, Sr. Fund. Many of these funds are Funds for the Community.
New Community Impact Grants are:
- $5,000 awarded to Thunder Bay Transportation Authority to help fund transportation for Alpena County residents to access their medical appointments, pharmacy needs, and wellness activities.
- $5,000 awarded to St. John Lutheran School to provide after-school creative arts, STEM, physical activity, and life-skills experiences.
- $5,000 awarded to Presque Isle District Library to fund their music and theatre arts program.
- $5,000 awarded to Posen Consolidated Schools to allow students to attend a Plastic Pollution Research & Stewardship Trip to Lake Erie.
- $5,000 awarded to Lincoln Pop-Up Pantry for food.
- $5,000 awarded to Alpena Senior Citizens Center to grow fresh produce for healthy meals.
- $5,000 awarded to Alcona Township Fire Department to purchase an Automated Pulse Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation device.
- $4,500 awarded to New Beginnings Ministries to secure food for the homeless and community members in need.
- $4,356 awarded to Charter Township of Alpena to upgrade rescue equipment.
- $4,007 awarded to Sunrise Mission Inc. to replace the flooring in the homeless and domestic violence shelter.
- $4,000 awarded to Sunrise Centre Inc. to purchase two AED devices.
- $3,000 awarded to Presque Isle County Historical Museum to continue with the Bradley House restoration project.
- $3,000 awarded to Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium to provide short-term transportation, childcare, or required work items so struggling employees can remain employed.
- $3,000 awarded to Iosco County Coats for Kids to purchase new winter gear for kids.
- $2,528 awarded to Trinity Episcopal Church to purchase an AED and train parishioners and volunteers on proper use.
- $2,500 awarded to Hubbard Lake Baptist/Bible Church to purchase food.
- $2,500 awarded to Hospital Hospitality House of Saginaw to support families from Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle to be near family when staying in a Saginaw hospital.
- $2,500 awarded to Boys and Girls Club of Alpena to provide opportunities for youth to participate in local activities.
- $2,350 awarded to Alcona County Library to launch the Curiosity Collection that will provide an array of kits, games, and gear for hands-on enrichment.
- $2,064 awarded to Alcona Local Food Association to expand the deer fencing surrounding the vegetable community garden and to replace the greenhouse door.
- $2,000 awarded to Rogers City Community Theatre Inc. to renovate the main access entry to the theatre's storage and rehearsal building.
- $2,000 awarded to Long Rapids Township Fire Department to provide auxiliary power to the township hall and fire department in the event of a power outage.
- $2,000 awarded to Hope Shores Alliance to support staff in attending a conference on crimes against women.
- $2,000 awarded to Heroes to host events for those with disabilities and their caregivers.
- $1,503 awarded to Huron Pines to help restore the Trout River in the Herman Vogler Conservation Area.
- $1,500 awarded to St. Vincent de Paul to support their building expansion.
- $1,500 awarded to HeadWaters Land Conservancy to create a hardpack trail at the Blackbird Marsh Nature that is ADA accessible.
- $1,500 awarded to Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan to expand their program into Northeast Michigan.
- $1,500 awarded to Alpena Free Methodist Church to modernize flooring, bathrooms, etc. around the church for safety.
- $1,500 awarded to Alcona Conservation District to create dedicated areas to native pollinator and wildlife species.
- $1,000 awarded to NEMCSA to create themed activity boxes for those living with dementia.
- $1,000 awarded to Hillman Methodist Church to assist families in preparing for school through free school supplies and hygiene products.
- $745 awarded to Rogers City Main Street-DDA to install overhead lighting in the new Community Nook.
- $627 awarded to Hillman Community Radio to sponsor free concerts at the Hillman Bandshell over the summer.
The next opportunities for submitting grant applications are through the Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle and Community Impact Grant with respective grant deadlines of July 1, 2026, and July 15, 2026. Applications are available at cfnem.org.
