ALPENA—The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) recently awarded a new round of Community Impact grants totaling $95,208 and covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties. The recently awarded grants include:

1. $5,000 awarded to Rogers City Area Seniors to purchase medical equipment for their loan closet.
2. $5,000 awarded to Presque Isle Conservation District to help repair spring flood damage to the Herman Vogler Walking Bridge. 3. $5,000 awarded to Northeast Michigan Family Resource Center to provide prevention-focused education promoting safe environments where children can thrive.
4. $5,000 awarded to NEMCSA to purchase winter gear for students at Lewiston Elementary School.
5. $5,000 awarded to Lincoln Pop-Up Pantry to cover food and trucking costs from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
6. $5,000 awarded to Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan for construction costs to build their next home.
7. $5,000 awarded to Friends of the Harrisville Train Depot to build ADA-compliant restrooms at the Depot.
8. $5,000 awarded to Alpena-Montmorency Conservation District to pay for the processing costs of harvesting deer to obtain a healthy meat source for people in need and to help control the deer population.
9. $5,000 awarded to Alpena Senior Citizens Center to support their Meals on Wheels program.
10. $4,000 awarded to Grand Lake Association for a public drinking fountain at the Community Homestead Park.
11. $3,500 awarded to Great Lakes Great Responsibility to launch a pilot program that helps businesses prevent marine debris.
12. $3,332 awarded to Rogers City Area Fire Department Authority to purchase diving equipment to establish a dive team in Presque Isle County.
13. $3,000 awarded to McLaren Northern Michigan Foundation to purchase emergency radio equipment to coordinate with emergency responders.
14. $3,000 awarded to Alpena Childcare & Development Center to paint, clean carpets, and install new blinds.
15. $3,000 awarded to Alcona Community Schools to purchase two televisions for students to have their own fitness plans.
16. $2,500 awarded to Thunder Bay Band Boosters to purchase new uniforms for the Alpena High School band.
17. $2,500 awarded to Hubbard Lake Baptist/Bible Church to cover food and trucking costs from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
18. $2,500 awarded to Friends Together to purchase gas cards for cancer patients to travel to appointments.
19. $2,500 awarded to City of Rogers City to host a National Night Out and Youth Night that promotes public safety.
20. $2,170 awarded to Presque Isle District Library to provide CPR/First Aid/AED training for the staff and purchase of First Aid Kits for the libraries.
21. $2,140 awarded to The Sunset Project to launch the Thunder Bay Surf Club.
22. $2,100 awarded to Alcona Historical Society to build more accessible stairs for the Bailey School.
23. $2,098 awarded to Thunder Bay Theatre to purchase lobby furniture.
24. $2,000 awarded to Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore to repair the roof damage caused by ice buildup at Camp Woodlands.
25. $1,500 awarded to Northeast Michigan TNR for spaying and neutering of the cats in the City of Alpena.
26. $1,428 awarded to Hillman Area Senior Citizens to purchase dining chairs.
27. $1,250 awarded to The Thin Gold Line Foundation to provide emergency funds, mental health resources, and advocacy for dispatchers.
28. $1,250 awarded to Delta Kappa Gamma Society Alpha XI Chapter Michigan Foundation to replace windows and flooring in the Green School.
29. $1,100 awarded to Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative to hold the EcoCareers Expo for the 8th graders of Northeast Michigan.
30. $1,000 awarded to MKM Equine Therapeutic Services to provide scholarships for low-income students to attend the day camp.
31. $1,000 awarded to Alcona Conservation District to remove ice storm damaged trees.
32. $790 awarded to Besser Male Chorus to cover the costs of the conductor, and accompanying musicians.
33. $550 awarded to Alpena City Band for insurance costs.

Community Impact Grants come from the Community Impact Fund, which is also supported by the Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Family Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Endowment Fund, Lucas and Janet Pfeiffenberger Fund, Marianne Kalivoda Hall Memorial Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Weinkauf, Sr. Endowment Fund. Additional funds supporting grants include the Alcona County General Fund, Alcona County Healthcare Initiative Fund, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, Huron Shores Health Fund, Ann M. Kuntz Fund, Lewiston Industrial Development Corporation Community Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Presque Isle County School Endowment Fund, Presque Isle General Fund, Spendable Tobacco Fund, United Communities of Presque Isle Fund, and the Wayne Wire Cloth Products Fund.

The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council for youth programs in Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and/or Presque Isle Counties. Nonprofits serving those counties can apply online through the Community Foundation Grant Portal at cfnem.org. Applications are due by October 15, 2026.
