CHEBOYGAN—The Straits Area Community Foundation (SACF) recently approved its winter round of Youth Advisory Council (YAC) grants. The Straits Area YAC awards grant funding to support projects and programs directly benefiting youth and projects important to youth.
Michigan Arts Access received a $1,000 grant to support its Artist in Residence program in Cheboygan Area Schools. This program brings unique arts-based learning experiences for learners with disabilities. The music and visual arts classes increase students’ creativity, artistic skills, self-confidence and abilities to stay on task, and provide an opportunity to celebrate a student’s success.
Iosco Regional Educational Service Agency also received a $1,000 grant specifically to be used for students in its Cheboygan County Adult Education program. Grant funding will be used to purchase clothing for students in adult education, 94% of whom IRESA says are at risk for not having the basic clothing and apparel to function successfully throughout the year.
The Straits Area Youth Advisory Council is a youth philanthropy program of SACF. Young people involved in YAC learn the important role of philanthropy in their community, gain leadership skills, serve their communities, and award youth grants through the Straits Area Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund. Through this program, they are empowered to make a real difference for their peers.
The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through the Straits Area YAC’s spring 2023 grant cycle. The application deadline is March 15, 2023. Applications are available at sacf.net.
