CHEBOYGAN—The Straits Area Community Foundation (SACF) recently approved four grants totaling $3,450 during its spring round of Youth Advisory Council (YAC) grants. The Straits Area YAC awards grant funding to support projects and programs directly benefiting youth and projects important to youth.
Cheboygan Compassionate Ministries, Inc. received $1,000 for their “Back to School” Giveaway project, which provides lunches, haircuts, schools supplies, and other basic needs items for students as they prepare to begin the new school year.
Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Counties Great Start Collaborative received a $1,000 grant to purchase diapers, wipes, and other baby care items for parents to access through the organization’s Baby Pantry Project.
Wolverine Community Schools received a $1,000 grant that will be used to purchase bikes and helmets for a “Hit the Trails” project, meant to encourage students to make use of the nearby North Central State Trail, with a goal of increasing physical activity and enjoyment of the outdoors.
Cornerstone Christian School received $450 toward the purchase of a picnic bench for the school’s playground.
The Straits Area Youth Advisory Council is a youth philanthropy program of SACF. Young people involved in YAC learn the important role of philanthropy in their community, gain leadership skills, serve their communities, and award youth grants through the Straits Area Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund. Through this program, they are empowered to make a real difference for their peers.
The next opportunity for submitting grant applications is through SACF’s Community Impact Grant. The application deadline is June 1, 2023. Applications are available at sacf.net.
