Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan Awards Over $119,000 in New Grants
ALPENA—The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) recently awarded a new round of community grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, and Presque Isle Counties. The Board of Trustees recently approved 56 new grants totaling $119,643. Of that amount, $82,201 was awarded in Community Impact Grants, and $37,422 was awarded in grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (NEMYAC).
New Community Impact Grants are:
- Alcona Historical Society - awarded $1,500 for the Family Day at the Lighthouse;
- Alpena Childcare & Development Center - awarded $900 for the Dreamer's Refridgerator project;
- Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library - awarded $2,928 for the Makerspace for Community Creativity and Exploration project;
- Alpena Gymnastics - awarded $1,500 to purchase a Variable Height Vault Station with Vault Board;
- Alpena Huron Shore Babe Ruth - awarded $1,500 to purchase materials for the Complex Infield;
- Alpena Street Performers - awarded $2,500 for the Downtown Street Performer Series;
- Friends of Negwegon State Park - awarded $1,500 for the Bay to Beacon Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K;
- Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan - awarded $2,000 for the Birth of Planet Earth: Planetarium program;
- Boys and Girls Club of Michigan - awarded $3,000 for the SMART Moves program;
- Case Township - awarded $2,500 for the Case Township Community Playground;
- Child and Family Services of Northeast Michigan - awarded $500 for the Child and Family Kid Carnival;
- City of Alpena - awarded $2,500 for the Self-Contained Breathing Aparatus (SCBA) Fit Testing for Firefighters project;
- DHD #4 - awarded $2,928 for the Breastfeeding Class Incentive program;
- Food Bank of Eastern Michigan - awarded $5,000 for the Montmorency County Food Distributions program;
- Friends of the Aplex Courts - awarded $2,500 for the McRae Park Dedicated Pickleball Courts;
- Headwaters Land Conservancy - awarded $1,500 for Stewardship Resources and Land Management Technology Upgrades;
- Lions Club of Michigan - awarded $3,000 for the Pop Up Pantry program;
- Hillman Community Schools - awarded $1,500 for the Euphonium Purchase and Instrument Inventory Repair program;
- Hope Shores Alliance - awarded $2,000 for the Donation Cleaning Support project;
- Hubbard Lake Bible Church / Sunrise Community Food Pantry - awarded $3,000 for the Feeding the Hungry program;
- Iosco County Coats for Kids - awarded $1,500 for the Happy Feet program;
- Mikado Township - awarded $1,500 for the No Child Without A Christmas program;
- Northeast MI Council of Governments - awarded $1,000 to promote the NE MI Electronics Collection program;
- Art in the Loft - awarded $4,000 for the 2022 Annual Young Artist Exhibit;
- Northeast Michigan Community Partnership - awarded $3,465 for the Montmorency County Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) program;
- Pegasus Springs Therapeutic Riding Center - awarded $1,500 for the Growing the Pegasus Community / Sensory Trail & Capacity Building project;
- PoWer! Book Bags - awarded $4,300 to purchase Book Bags for Lewiston Schools;
- PoWer! Book Bags - awarded $5,000 to purchase Book Bags for Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties;
- Presque Isle Conservation District - awarded $2,400 for the Herman Vogler Conservation Area Bridge Replacement;
- Presque Isle District Library - awarded $2,780 for the World Music Series at the Rogers City Community Theatre;
- Rayola Inc - awarded $2,000 for the Comfort Care for Foster Children in Montmorency and Alpena Counties project;
- Rogers City Community Theatre - awarded $5,000 for the Theatrical Curtain and Rigging Replacement program;
- Thunder Bay Arts Council - awarded $1,500 for the Water in Limestone Sculpture Project; and
- United Way of NE MI - awarded $2,000 for the Run United Fully Automated Timing (FAT) System.
Grants for this Community Impact Grant cycle come from the Community Endowment Fund, as well as several other unrestricted and designated endowment funds, including Alcona General Fund, Alcona Healthcare Initiative Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Wayne Wire Cloth Fund , Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, Huron Shores Health Fund, Ann M. Kuntz Fund for Presque Isle Youth, CFNEM Spendable Tobacco Fund, United Communities of Presque Isle County Fund, Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Fund, Pfeiffenberger Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, and the Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Weinkauf, Sr. Fund.

- Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Counties Educational Service District / NE MiSTEM Network - awarded $1,750 for Creating a STEM to career pipeline in Northeast MI; and
- Presque Isle District Library - awarded $1,713 for the construction phase of the Improving Theater Programming with Concession Stand Profits project.
