ALPENA—The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) recently awarded a new round of community grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties. The Board of Trustees recently approved 46 new grants totaling $106,515. Of that amount, $84,289 was awarded in Community Impact Grants, and $22,226 was awarded in grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (NEMYAC).
New Community Impact Grants are:
- Alcona Community Schools - awarded $1,000 for the Alcona Wrestling program;
- Alcona Community Schools - awarded $3,000 for the Elementary School Outdoor Classroom;
- Alcona County Commission on Aging - awarded $1,500 for the Alcona County Commission on Aging Technology Loan Center;
- Northeast Michigan Community Partnership - awarded $2,735 for the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training program;
- Hubbard Lake Bible Church - awarded $3,000 for the Sunrise Community Food Pantry;
- Alcona Historical Society - awarded $2,972 for the Sprucing Up Bailey School project;
- D&R Acres Hobby & Rescue Farm - awarded $2,500 for the Build and Repair Fencing Pastures / Shelters project;
- Iosco County Coats for Kids - awarded $1,080 for the Happy Feet project;
- Friends of Negwegon State Park - awarded $2,500 for the Beacon to Bay Half Marathon project;
- City of Rogers City / DDA - awarded $2,000 for the Music Brings Joy program;
- City of Rogers City - awarded $2,500 for the Sesquicentennial Historical Marker project;
- Headwaters Land Conservancy - awarded $1,200 for the Presque Isle County Priority Parcel Outreach Campaign;
- Presque Isle District Library - awarded $1,500 for the Summer Reading program;
- Presque Isle County Historical Museum - awarded $2,500 for the Rogers City Sesquicentennial Timeline project;
- Rogers City Area Seniors - awarded $2,500 for the CARE (Covid Aid Relief Endeavor) Extension program;
- Rogers City Community Theatre - awarded $3,500 for the 2021 Audio Visual Theatrical Enhancements program;
- Brush Creek Mill - awarded $1,515 for the Second Floor Historical Museum program;
- Hillman Community Schools - awarded $2,500 for the AVID Structures program;
- Junior Achievement of North Central Michigan - awarded $1,500 for the Junior Achievement program in Alpena and Montmorency County Schools;
- District Health Department #4 - awarded $2,500 for the Breastfeeding Classes Incentive project;
- Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan - awarded $5,000 for the Housing Plus Aging in Place (AIP) program;
- Northeast MI Center for Fine Arts (Art in the Loft) - awarded $3,617 for the 2021 Annual Young Artist Exhibit;
- NEMROC - awarded $5,000 for the Cigarette Litter Brigade program;
- Thunder Bay River Center - awarded $1,000 for the Bowfishing in Alpena program;
- Alpena Huron Shores Babe Ruth - awarded $4,000 for the Complex Field Upgrades and Repairs program;
- Boys and Girls Club of Alpena - awarded $3,500 for the Triple Play (Mind, Body, Soul) program;
- Hospice of Michigan - awarded $3,500 for the wE - Connect (Video Connect Project - Virtual Care and Companionship at End of Life) program;
- St. Paul Lutheran Church - awarded $1,670 for the Gratitude Lunches - Dinner on a Door Knob program;
- Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library - awarded $3,500 for the 24/7 Library Locker Solution program;
- Alpena Street Performers - awarded $3,000 for the Downtown Street Performer Series program;
- Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan - awarded $3,000 for the Help Keep History Alive: Preserving the 1898 McKay Log Cabin program;
- Huron Humane Society - awarded $2,500 for the Snips and Cuts for Cats program;
- Temple Beth-El - awarded $1,000 for a Sanctuary Audio System.
Grants for this Community Impact Grant cycle come from the Community Endowment Fund, as well as several other unrestricted and designated endowment funds, including Alcona General Fund, Alcona Healthcare Initiative Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Wayne Wire Cloth Fund , Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, Huron Shores Health Fund, Ann M. Kuntz Fund for Presque Isle Youth, CFNEM Spendable Tobacco Fund, United Communities of Presque Isle County Fund, Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Fund, Pfeiffenberger Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, and the Weinkauf Fund.
Also approved were grants recommended by the Youth Advisory Councils (YAC) of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties. 13 grants totaling $22,226 were awarded and include:
- Alcona Community Schools - $2,500 for the Alcona Cross Country Ski Club;
- Alcona Community Schools - $2,500 for Alcona Wrestling;
- Alpena Figure Skating Club - $1,450 for the Ice Skate Summer Camp;
- Boys and Girls Club of Alpena - $2,500 for the Youth Volunteer Corps program;
- Northeast Michigan Center for Fine Arts (Art in the Loft) - $1,450 for the R.E.A.C.H program;
- Pegasus Springs Therapeutic Riding Center - $2,500 for Project Renew;
- The Salvation Army - $1,250 for the Summer Day Camp;
- Thunder Bay River Center - $975 for the Magic in our Midst project;
- Michigan Arts Access - $1,850 for the Artist in Residence program;
- Rogers City Area Schools - $1,000 for the Runners Team Tent project;
- Rogers City Area Schools - $280 for the RCHS Industrial Technology Program Renovation project;
- St. Ignatius Catholic School - $2,500 for playground safety improvements;
- St. John Lutheran Church and School - $1,471 for the Snow Sports program.
The next opportunities for submitting grant applications are through the Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle and Community Impact grant with respective grant deadlines of July 1, 2021 and July 15, 2021. Applications are available at cfnem.org.
