ALPENA—The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) recently awarded a new round of Community Impact grants and Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties. The Board of Trustees recently approved 34 new grants totaling $43,912.
New Community Impact Grants are:
- Friends of Negwegon State Park – awarded $592 for the Autumn Night Sky: Myths, Legends, Stories, and Astronomy project.
- Alcona Historical Society – awarded $500 toward the Historical Days project.
- Harrisville United Methodist Church – awarded $1,000 toward the Personal Care and Cleaning Supplies for Alcona Food Pantry project.
- My Brother’s Hope – awarded $600 toward the Covering Seats & Soles, Roar Store, and Free Store Products project.
- Inspiration Alcona, Inc. – awarded $2,000 for the Farm to Fork Workshop & Dinner and the Farms & Food Conference projects.
- Alcona Humane Society – awarded $500 for the Fire Preparedness Plan project.
- Hillman Community Radio – awarded $500 toward the Recording Studio Upgrade.
- Hillman Community Schools/Brege’s Global Studies – awarded $508 toward the Exploring Greece project.
- Hillman Community Radio – awarded $1,000 toward the Processor Upgrade project.
- Posen Consolidated Schools – awarded $483 for the Literacy for High School project.
- Posen Consolidated Schools – awarded $1,000 for the National Marine Sanctuary Day project.
- Rogers City Area Schools – awarded $1,000 for the Preferred Seating and Learning in Second Grade project.
- St. Peter Lutheran Church – awarded $1,720 for the Grave Identification and Historical Signage Project.
- Great Lakes Lore, Inc. – awarded $3,000 for the Copier Update project.
- Alpena Blues Coalition – awarded $427 toward Computer Equipment.
- NE MI Community Mental Health/ABA Program – awarded $825 for Supplies to Improve the Autism Program Treatment Room.
- Association of Lifelong Learners – awarded $500 for the People to People program.
- NE MI Community Partnership, dba Partners in Prevention – awarded $500 for the Power of Parenting and FASD Prevention programs.
- Friends of the Lake Huron Watershed – awarded $1,000 toward the Education Kits to Discover Pollinators and Nature, Fall 2017.
- Thunder Bay Martial Arts – awarded $250 toward Martial Arts Scholarships.
- Thunder Bay Community Health Services, Inc. – awarded $1,797 for the Visual Aid Behavioral Therapy project.
- Multi-Purpose Arena Coalition – awarded $1,010 toward the Going Green – Recycling Program at Northern Lights Arena.
- Alpena Gymnastics, Inc. – awarded $500 for the Uneven Bar Landing Mats.
- District Health Department #4 – awarded $1,200 for the Girls on the Run Sunrise Side program.
- Thunder Bay Folk Society – awarded $1,000 for the 4th Annual Thunder Bay Folk Festival.
- Alpena Area Senior Citizens Council, Inc. – awarded $1,000 toward the “You Are Not Alone” Alzheimer’s program.
- Alpena Public Schools/Alpena Career and College Access Network – awarded $2,000 toward Campus Visits.
- Boy Scouts of America – awarded $1,000 for Comprehensive Youth Development Projects.
- Boys and Girls Club of Alpena – awarded $2,500 for the Triple Play (Mind, Body, and Soul) Program.
- District Health Department #4/Caring Place Adult Day Center – awarded $1,000 for the Adult Day Center Program.
- Habitat for Humanity, NE MI – awarded $2,500 for the Building Capacity Enlargement Project.
- NE MI Center for Fine Arts/Art in the Loft – awarded $1,500 for the Integrating Arts and Technology Project.
- NEMCOG/Alpena County Recycling Board – awarded $4,000 for the Alpena Area-Wide Recycling Education project.
- Shelter, Inc. dba Hope Shores Alliance – awarded $5,000 for the Safe House Improvement Plan.
Community Impact Grants are awarded through two different grant cycles throughout the year. Funding for grants during this cycle comes from CFNEM’s Community Endowment Fund (which also includes Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Fund, Pfeiffenberger Fund, Reitz Family Fund, Stevens Fund, Weinkauf Fund, and the Wilson Family Fund).
The Northeast Michigan Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) awarded a total of $21,463 to programs supporting issues important to women in our region. Grants approved include:
- NE MI Community Partnership, Inc. – awarded $446 from the WGC Fund for the 25th Anniversary Parenting Awareness Michigan Conference.
- Friends of Negwegon State Park – awarded $592 from the WGC Fund for the Autumn Night Sky: Myths, Legends, Stories, and Astronomy Project.
- NE MI Community Partnership, Inc. – awarded $625 from the WGC Fund for Cribs for Safe Sleep.
- Association of Lifelong Learners@ACC – awarded $300 from the WGC Fund toward refreshments for the People are People Program.
- Thunder Bay Arts Council, Inc. – awarded $993 from the WGC fund for the Judy Sima, “Escape to Freedom” program.
- Options Pregnancy Center – awarded $500 from the WGC Fund for the Move and Expansion Project.
- Multi-Purpose Arena Coalition/Shipwreck Alley Rollers – awarded $1,007 from the WGC Fund for the Safely Connecting Women to Roller Derby Project.
- Alpena Township Fire Department – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for Turnout Gear for Female Firefighters.
- Alpena Public Schools/Alpena Career & College Access Network – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the 8th Grade Campus Visits.
- Boys and Girls Club of Alpena – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the S.M.A.R.T. Girls Program.
- District Health Dept. #4/Girls on the Run – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the Girls on the Run Sunrise Side Program.
- Faith Outreach – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for Personal Packets for Women.
- Alpena First United Methodist Church – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund toward Personal Items for the Hearts to Home Project.
- Friends of Alpena Farmer’s Market – awarded $1,500 from the WGC Fund for the Guest Chef @ Alpena Farmer’s Market Project.
- Habitat for Humanity NE MI, Inc. – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the Single Mother Closing Cost Support Project.
- Hillman Community Schools – awarded $500 from the WGC Fund toward student expenses for the Girls Exploring Greece project.
- McLaren Northern Michigan Fdn. – awarded $500 from the WGC Fund toward the Hospice of the Sunrise Shore Patient Assistance Fund and Volunteer Program.
- New Beginnings Ministries – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the Hillman Area Resource Pantry (HARP) Program.
- NE MI Center for Fine Arts/Art in the Loft – awarded $1,500 from the WGC Fund for the R.E.A.C.H. Program.
- NE MI Center for Fine Arts/Art in the Loft – awarded $1,500 from the WGC Fund for the Creative Collaborations: Getting smART with Hope Shores Alliance Project.
- Shelter, Inc. dba Hope Shores Alliance – awarded $1,500 from the WGC Fund for the Volunteer Training and Appreciation Project.
- Thunder Bay Theatre, Inc. – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the Pursuit of Gender Parity Project.
- Thunder Bay Martial Arts – awarded $1,000 from the WGC Fund for the Women’s Self-Defense Training Program.
