ALPENA, MICH.—The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan, which serves Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties, is very pleased to announce an increase in the maximum amount area nonprofits can request for the Foundation’s Community Impact Grants and Mini-Grants. Those interested in applying for funding to support projects that will benefit those communities located within the service area can now apply for a maximum amount of $5,000, up from the former limit of $3,000 per grant cycle. Mini-grant awards are increasing to $1,000, up from the former limit of $500 per grant cycle.
Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2016 is the next opportunity to apply for these grants, as well as Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (YAC) Grants (maximum of $2,500 or $500 for mini-grants) and Tobacco Settlement Grants (maximum of $3,000). YAC Grants must be used for programs or projects that benefit youth in the local area. Tobacco Settlement Grants must be used for tobacco-related programs or projects in the local area (four counties noted above).
“The Community Foundation board and staff strive to stay very receptive to the needs of the communities we serve. We’ve determined that increasing the amount of the grant awards at this time would enable the Foundation to make a greater impact,” said Executive Director Barbara Frantz. “As our endowments increase in size, the amount available for grants also increases, enabling the Foundation to make larger grant awards while still being fiscally responsible.”
“We are fortunate to have several forward-thinking, generous individuals in northeast Michigan who have invested wisely and want to share their success to help meet the ongoing needs of their community,” added Frantz. “We are so appreciative of all those who have believed in and trusted the Community Foundation to be good stewards over the past 41 years.”
