Former CFNEM Director, Lucas Pfeiffenberger Receives Award
Lucas Pfeiffenberger received the Community Foundation Philanthropy Award at the Governor’s Service Award ceremony in Detroit on June 24. Lucas has played a leadership role in the development of community philanthropy in Alpena and the counties surrounding it, primarily through the Community Foundation for
Northeast Michigan, for nearly 30 years
As a Member, Trustee, President and Executive Director until his retirement in 2000, Lucas and his wife Janet have created many funds at CFNEM to meet the needs of the community.
Lucas was instrumental in setting up CFNEM’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a program funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to teach young people about philanthropy. While he was an active member of CFNEM, he never missed a YAC meeting and often could be seen taking a carload of high school youth to YAC meetings, summer camps and statewide meetings.
While Lucas retired from CFNEM, he has not retired from giving back to his community in many ways, including attending quarterly CFNEM board meetings. In his humble manner Lucas has been known to say, “It takes a team to achieve goals.” The residents of northeast Michigan would respond, “Any team with Lucas as a member is sure to win!”
