CFNEM Awards Over $45,000 in Grants
In December, the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation forNortheast Michigan(CFNEM) approved the following grants:
1. Mikado Township—awarded $205 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Darley Ram Jammers.
2. Millen Township—awarded $1,200 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Baseball Diamond and Park Improvements Project.
3. Friends of Negwegon State Park—awarded $1,900 ($1,500 from the Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund and $400 from the Community Endowment Fund) for the Negwegon’s Natural Communities Project.
4. Harrisville United Methodist Church—awarded $1,400 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Energy Efficient Repairs on Windows project.
5. Posen Area Fire and Rescue—awarded $2,803 from the Huron Shores Health Fund for the Traffic Safety/Printer Project.
6. Huron Shores Humanities Council—awarded $1,900 ($1,000 from the Ann M. Kuntz Fund and $900 from the Community Endowment Fund) for the Cut Time Classical Programs.
7. St. Ignatius School—awarded $1,500 from the Ann M. Kuntz Fund for the Engaging Math and Science Students with Interactive Whiteboards project.
8. Holy Cross Lutheran Church—awarded $1,000 from the Ann M. Kuntz Fund for the Preschool Playground.
9. Metz Township—awarded $1,500 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Metz Fire Historical Site Signage and Brochures project.
10. City of Rogers City—awarded $1,000 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Historical Site Markers, Phase Two project.
11. Presque Isle Township/Parks and Recreation—awarded $800 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Patrick Garrity Public Art Project.
12. Alpena Swim Club—awarded $1,290 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Equipment Project.
13. Alpena Civic Theatre—awarded $700 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Theatre Memories Equipment Project.
14. Park Family Foundation—awarded $600 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Northern Lights Arena Lobby Furniture.
15. Northeast Michigan Community Partnership, Inc.—awarded $2,265 ($2,000 from the Community Endowment Fund and $265 from the Montmorency County General Fund) for the Time Dollars Project.
16. Alpena Boosters Club/Wings Over Alpena—awarded $1,500 from the Community Endowment Fund for the 2012 Air Show.
17. Alpena, Montmorency, Alcona Educational Service District (AMAESD)—awarded $3,000 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Alpena, Montmorency, Alcona College Access Network (AMACAN) Project.
18. NE MI Community Service Agency (NEMCSA)—awarded $1,500 from the Community Endowment Fund for the LINKS to Homeownership/Foreclosure Prevention Counseling Program.
19. The Salvation Army—awarded $3,000 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Emergency Financial Assistance/Call Us for Help Project.
20. Hospice of Michigan—awarded $1,200 from the Community Endowment Fund for the Electronic Data Management System.
The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM), established in 1974, awards nearly $100,000 each year through its Common Grant Application. For granting purposes, the Community Endowment Fund consists of the General Endowment Fund, Genite Family Fund, Chuck and Kathy Ingle Fund, Lappan Fund, Neva Nelson Memorial Fund, Panel Processing Endowment Fund, Stevens Fund, Weinkauf Fund, and the Wilson Family Fund.
Additional funding through the Common Grant Application is available from the following restricted funds: Huron Shores Health Fund, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Eustis Memorial Fund, Wayne Wire Cloth Fund, Alcona County General Fund, Montmorency County General Fund, Presque Isle County General Fund, Ann M. Kuntz Fund, and the Eugene J. & Helen T. McLean Fund.
The Board of Trustees also approved the following grants from the Kellogg Youth Fund as recommended by the Youth Advisory Council.
Alcona County Grants
- Alcona Community Schools/Alcona FFA Chapter—awarded $200 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Agriscience Shared with the World project.
- Friends of Negwegon State Park—awarded $650 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for Digital Cameras for the Negwegon Natural Communities project.
- Alcona Community Schools/Alcona HS—awarded $800 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the After School Woodworking Program Machinery Updates.
- Alcona Community Schools—awarded $200 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Science Class Refrigerator.
- Alcona Community Schools/Elementary School—awarded $50 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Early Childhood Alphabet Resources Project.
- Alcona Community Schools—awarded $495 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the ACT/MME Preparation and Career/College Planning Project.
Alpena County Grants
- Alpena Community College/Volunteer Center—awarded $900 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for The Spotlight Series Russell Miller Program.
- Alpena Swim Club—awarded $1,000 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Equipment Project.
- Alpena Boosters Club/Wings Over Alpena—awarded $1,500 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the 2012 Air Show.
- ImmanuelLutheranSchool—awarded $1,290 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Scholastic Reading Counts Program (excluding training expenses).
- Alpena Public Schools—awarded $500 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Alpena, Montmorency, Alcona College Access Network (AMACAN) Project.
- Alpena Plaza Pool—awarded $1,400 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Make A Splash Alpena Program.
- Alpena Public Schools/Thunder Bay Junior High School—awarded $265 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Dictionary/Thesaurus Sets.
- Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency (NEMCSA)—awarded $250 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Thunder Bay Junior HS/School Success Program.
Montmorency County Grants
- Hillman Community Schools—awarded $2,000 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Hillman High School Welding Program.
- Atlanta Community Schools/Atlanta Elementary—awarded $250 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the RIF Program.
- Atlanta Community Schools—awarded $350 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Economics Alive! Materials project.
- Hillman Community Schools—awarded $100 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Jr./Sr. HS Pizza Club.
Presque Isle County Grants
- Posen Consolidated Schools—awarded $720 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Lansing Experience.
- Rogers City Public Schools—awarded $912 ($706 from the Kellogg Youth Fund and $206 from the Eugene J. and Helen T. McLean Fund) for the Physical Education Equipment Improvement project.
- St. Ignatius School—awarded $720 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the Engaging Math & Science Students with Interactive Whiteboards project.
- Posen Consolidated Schools—awarded $500 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the 2012 Senior Trip.
- Posen Consolidated Schools—awarded $500 from the Kellogg Youth Fund for the New Tools for Industrial Arts project.
